Lefty pundit Fran Lebowitz called for President Trump to be turned over to Saudis who killed a journalist because impeachment would “not even [scratch] the surface of what he deserves.”

“We should turn him over to the Saudis, you know, his buddies,” she told Bill Maher on the Friday episode of his HBO show. “The same Saudis who got rid of that reporter, you know” – a reference to Washington Post writer Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last year.

“Maybe they can do the same for him,” Lebowitz added.

She walked the comment back later, in the show’s online-only “Overtime” segment, after producers told Maher it had sparked criticism on social media.

“I didn’t realize that I had said it. I had 12 cups of coffee,” she explained. “I regret saying it.”

“I mean, it’s a live show,” Maher responded. “You really don’t want to see the president dismembered by the Saudis… no matter who the president is, we don’t want physical harm.”

“I regret that everyone misinterpreted it because they misinterpret everything,” Lebowitz replied.
