Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch on Wednesday said he will remain independent and will not be swayed by influence from President Trump and his advisers in the White House.

“Respectfully, none of you speaks for me,” Gorsuch said at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. “I am a judge. I am independent. I make up my own mind.”

Gorsuch, a federal judge in Colorado, was responding to a question from Sen. Pat Leahy (D-Vt.) about whether he owed allegiance to the White House after top adviser Steve Bannon and Chief of Staff Reince Priebus supported his nomination to the Supreme Court.

“What vision do you share with President Trump?” Leahy asked.
