State Department spokeswoman and former cable news anchor Heather Nauert is under “serious consideration” to become the US ambassador to the United Nations, President Trump revealed Thursday.

Trump confirmed that Nauert, who has never worked as a diplomat or held office, is on his short list to replace outgoing Ambassador Nikki Haley, who announced her resignation last month.

“She’s excellent, she’s been with us a long time, she’s been a supporter for a long time, really — excellent,” Trump said of Nauert. “So she’s under very serious — we’ll probably make a decision next week.”

Nauert, who worked as a breaking news anchor on “Fox & Friends,” was appointed State Department spokeswoman in April 2017, according to her agency bio.
