WASHINGTON — Disgraced Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is now facing a probe by the House Committee on Ethics over accusations of sexual misconduct.
“The Committee … has begun an investigation and will gather additional information regarding the allegations that Representative Eric Swalwell violated the Code of Official Conduct or any law,” the panel announced Monday, “with respect to allegations that he may have engaged in sexual misconduct, including towards an employee working under his supervision.”
Late last week, multiple bombshell reports broke that the married Swalwell, 45, had sexual relations with four women — including subordinates who were much younger than him.
Rep. Eric Swalwell faces a probe by the House Committee on Ethics. APThe allegations included claims that the lawmaker raped a woman while she was intoxicated and left her bruised and bleeding. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation into that report.
Other former female subordinates accused Swalwell of sending them explicit photos on Snapchat, while one woman alleged she woke up next to him in a hotel room after a drunken night out after he kissed her and touched her leg without her consent the previous evening.
Swalwell suspended his bid for California governor Sunday night and is facing calls to resign or be expelled from Congress.
While the Democrat vowed to “fight the serious, false allegations” against him, he also apologized for “mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past.”
In 2020, Swalwell had been in hot water for his interactions with Christine Fang, a suspected Chinese spy, but he has always denied that their relationship had a sexual component, despite widespread speculation.
The House is set to reconvene Tuesday following a two-week recess for Easter and Passover, and the matter of Swalwell’s future in DC is expected to be hotly debated.

The Ethics panel is also investigating at least three other lawmakers who are facing calls for resignation or suspension, Reps. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas), Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.), and Cory Mills (R-Fla.)
Swalwell’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
“The Committee notes that the mere fact that it is investigating these allegations, and publicly disclosing its review, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred,” the panel stressed in its announcement.
Prior the allegations, Swalwell had been the top-polling Democrat ahead of the Golden State’s June 2 open primary.
Now, former Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.), who was caught on camera berating staffers and allegedly dumped scalding mashed potatoes on her then-husband’s, and billionaire climate activist Tom Steyer are thought to be the top two Democrats in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Gavin Newsom.
