Have a seat, Hunter. Let’s talk.
First son Hunter Biden agreed Thursday to appear for a deposition on Capitol Hill before the House committees leading the impeachment inquiry into President Biden for alleged corruption.
Hunter, 53, agreed to sit for the interview on Feb. 28 — likely heading off further action to hold him in contempt of Congress for flouting an earlier scheduled deposition for Dec. 13.
“We look forward to Hunter Biden’s testimony,” House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said in a joint statement.
“His deposition will come after several interviews with Biden family members and associates,” the chairmen said — though it’s currently unclear which other members of the president’s family have testified or agreed to do so.
House Republicans are investigating the elder Biden’s links to his relatives’ lucrative foreign dealings during and immediately after his vice presidency, as well as an alleged Justice Department coverup to shield Joe and Hunter Biden from scrutiny.

Republicans say that Hunter and his uncle James corruptly sold access to their powerful relative, creating conflicts of interest in foreign affairs, and that the president has misled the public about his role.

House investigators on Thursday took a deposition from Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris, who has loaned or given Hunter Biden as much as $7 million to cover his past-due tax bills and living expenses after meeting him at a late 2019 fundraiser for Joe Biden.
Hunter’s Manhattan art dealer, Georges Bergès, who brokered $1.5 million in sales of the first son’s art since his dad entered the White House in 2021 — much of it to Morris — testified last week.

It’s possible that Hunter Biden will invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during his deposition — especially because he faces federal tax charges in Los Angeles and gun charges in Delaware.
The first son walked away from a probation-only plea deal in July following courtroom demands for assurances that he had total immunity for past conduct, including possible violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which could implicate his father.
Both Hunter Biden and House Republicans have expressed interest in a public hearing after the closed-door deposition is complete.
This is a developing story. Please check back for more updates.
