It’s do or die for Ted Cruz in Indiana on Tuesday — and pollsters say he’s got a chance against GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

While Trump leads in Indiana by 2.3 percent in the RealClearPolitics polling average, the latest surveys show mixed results. Two polls released Friday showed Trump with 2- and 9-point leads; a third had Cruz up by 16.

If Cruz ekes out a victory in the Hoosier State’s winner-take-all primary, he could force a floor fight at the GOP convention this summer in Cleveland. He’s hoping his loyalists would have the power to give him the nomination on a later ballot.

But if Trump claims all 57 delegates, his path to a first-ballot nomination at the GOP convention will be all but assured.

The state’s open-primary rules allow voters to cross party lines, which could help give Trump the edge he needs.
