Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has balked at President Trump’s
, griping that Trump “illegally” withdrew from the landmark nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
“After the US illegal withdrawal from the nuclear deal, the ball is in Europe’s court now,” Rouhani said Tuesday, a day after Trump said he’d be willing to meet.
Other Iranian officials also rejected Trump’s overture.
“The United States is not trustworthy,” Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said, Reuters reported, citing the semi-official Fars news agency.
The other signers of the 2015 nuclear agreement — Russia, China, Britain, France, Germany and the European Union — have said they would stick with the terms.
Trump condemned the pact as “the worst deal ever” before withdrawing in May.
