Jared Kushner will be announced Monday as the head of the newly formed White House Office of American Innovation, which is being called a strategic consultant SWAT team meant to make government more efficient.
“We should have excellence in government,” Kushner, a senior adviser to his father-in-law, President Trump, told The Washington Post.
“The government should be run like a great American company. Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens,” Kushner added.
The new White House office will work with the biggest names in tech, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
“All Americans, regardless of their political views, can recognize that government stagnation has hindered our ability to properly function, often creating widespread congestion and leading to cost overruns and delays,” Trump told The Washington Post, which first broke news of Kushner’s new appointment, in a statement.
“I promised the American people I would produce results, and apply my ‘ahead of schedule, under budget’ mentality to the government,” the president added.
The new office will also work with top finance execs.
“There is a need to figure out what policies are adding friction to the system without accompanying it with significant benefits,” Blackstone Group CEO Stephen Schwarzian told The Washington Post. “It’s easy for the private sector to at least see where the friction is, and to do that very quickly and succinctly.”
Another element of Kushner’s formalized portfolio will be a new governmental commission on drug abuse. That commission will be led by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Internally, Kushner will be aided by National Economic Council director Gary Cohn, a former Goldman Sachs executive, and Chris Liddell, a former Microsoft exec. Ivanka Trump, Kushner’s wife, will also reportedly advise the White House Office of American Innovation.
