Top Republicans are lining up to demand that President Biden must leave the Oval Office immediately after his announcement that he’s dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.
Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance is leading the wave — which was joined by House Speaker Mike Johnson and others.
Hours before Biden’s announcement, the Ohio senator said that if the president isn’t fit to campaign, he cannot be trusted to remain in the White House.
“Not running for reelection would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as Commander-in-Chief,” Vance wrote on X.
“There is no middle ground,” he continued.
Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance called on Biden to resign. APBiden sent shockwaves through the political universe Sunday afternoon, caving to massive pressure to quit his campaign.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) also immediately called on Biden to resign.
“If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough,” Johnson said.
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), the No. 3 Republican in the House, also piled on.
“The Democrat Party is in absolute free fall for their blatantly corrupt and desperate attempt to cover up the fact that Joe Biden is unfit for office,” Stefanik posted to X.
“Then RESIGN your office. If you can’t run a mere political campaign, you can’t be President,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo) added.
