Former President Jimmy Carter will be laid to rest Thursday in his home state of Georgia alongside his wife, Rosalynn, who died in 2023.

Carter died Dec. 29 at age 100. He was the longest-living US president.

World leaders and other notables — including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation Monday; President-elect Donald Trump and Melania; former President Barack Obama; former President Bill Clinton, his Vice President Al Gore, and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton; and newly-pardoned first son Hunter Biden — gathered Thursday morning to honor the 39th POTUS at a funeral service at Washington National Cathedral in DC.

Air Force One wheels up to Georgia

Air Force One, carrying the casket of President Jimmy Carter, has just taken off from Joint Base Andrews outside Washington en route to Georgia.

The 39th President will be buried near his longtime home in Plains, Ga. following a burial service at Maranatha Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for decades after leaving the White House in 1981.

Georgians gathered at the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park in Plains to watch the late 39th president's state funeral in Washington,

Photos show the attendees dabbing their eyes with tissues while taking in the solemn ceremony.

Carter, who died Dec. 29 at the age of 100, will be buried alongside his late wife Rosalynn at their Plains home later Thursday.

Obama rose to allow Dubya into his row for the ceremony, prompting Bush to give him a little love tap.

Carter motorcade pulls away from cathedral

The motorcade bearing President Jimmy Carter's remains is pulling away from the National Cathedral.

It is heading to Joint Base Andrews, from where the 39th president will make one final trip to his home state of Georgia.

Obama whispers into Kamala Harris' ear after funeral

Former President Barack Obama whispered something into Vice President Kamala Harris' ear after the funeral.

The two locked eyes as members of the Carter family exited.

Obama and Harris then embraced and began speaking quietly over each other's shoulders.

Harris nodded her head several times in response.

Other former presidents follow Biden out

Bill Clinton, along with his wife Hillary, Barack Obama and George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush have exited.

President-elect Donald Trump and incoming first lady Melania Trump have also departed.

State funeral concludes, Carter's casket heads to Georgia

The state funeral service for the late President Jimmy Carter has concluded.

A special military honor guard and honorary pallbearers will carry Carter's casket out of the cathedral and into a motorcade.

Members of the Armed Forces Chorus and the cathedral's choir are singing "Crown Him With Many Crowns" accompanied by the US Marine Orchestra.

The casket now makes its final transit back to Georgia, Carter's home state to be buried alongside his wife, Rosalynn, who died Nov. 19, 2023.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sing 'Imagine' by John Lennon

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are signing a country-infused rendition of "Imagine" by John Lennon.

The lyrics are at odds with several of the eulogies that preceded it, speaking of Carter's deep Christian faith and imagining him being reunited with his wife Rosalynn in heaven.

"Imagine there's no heaven," the song begins.

Civil Rights-era leader Rev. Andrew Young calls Carter's meteoric rise a 'miracle'

Rev. Andrew Young, a Civil Rights-era leader, expressed wonder that his friend Jimmy Carter had risen from such humble means.

“It was something of a miracle and I don’t mean this with any disrespect, but it’s still hard for me to understand how you could get to be president from Plains, Ga," Young said with a laugh.
