John Kasich — who was asked to quit the race by GOP front-runner Donald Trump — actually has the best chance of any Republican to win in November, pollsters said Monday.

In hypothetical matchups pitting Republicans Kasich, Trump and Ted Cruz against Democrats, the Ohio governor runs the strongest of any GOP hopeful, up 45 to 38 percent on Hillary Clinton and down just 45 to 42 percent against Bernie Sanders, according to a national poll taken for Investor’s Business Daily.

Trump has won 736 of the 1,237 delegates he would need to clinch the GOP nomination in the first round. Cruz has 463 and Kasich 143.

But Trump’s the weakest of the three remaining Republicans going into November, the poll showed, losing 47-35 percent to Clinton and 53-36 percent to Sanders.

Cruz runs in the middle of his two Republican rivals, trailing Clinton 44-39 percent and Sanders 50-38 percent.

Trump on Sunday called on Kasich to drop out: “He doesn’t have to run and take my votes.”

Kasich has conceded he won’t overtake Trump in delegates — but insists he’d be the GOP’s best option in an open convention.

The IBD poll was taken between Monday and Saturday, interviewing 902 people. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.3 points.
