WASHINGTON — President Trump recalled Tuesday that his late mother Mary “had a crush” on King Charles III when he was young.
Trump said his mother would gush about the then-prince during the future president’s childhood and young adulthood.
“She really did love the [royal] family. But I also remember her saying very clearly, ‘Charles, look, young Charles. He’s so cute,’” the president said at a ceremony welcoming the now-77-year-old monarch on the White House lawn.

Trump said his mother, who immigrated to the US in 1930 at the age of 18, was also a fan of Charles’ late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
“She loved the queen. And any time the queen was involved in the ceremony or anything, my mother would be glued to the television, and she’d say, ‘Look, Donald. Look how beautiful that is,” the president recounted.
The king did not speak at the ceremony ahead of his afternoon address to a joint meeting of Congress.
