The Issue: Sen. Joe Manchin’s declares he’ll vote “no” on President Biden’s multitrillion-dollar spending bill.
It is little comfort to know that we have only one Democrat in the Senate that had the sanity to make it known that he cannot vote for the social-spending extravaganza (“Now it’s Build Back ‘Deader,’ ” Dec. 20).
I think perhaps there are a few more; however, they are fearful of the revenge that would be heaped upon them by their progressive colleagues.
If nobody in the Senate can reach across the aisle for the good of all Americans, this administration will accomplish nothing, and that will be just fine with me.

Consider for a moment the courage it took Sen. Manchin to buck radical elements of his own party in addition to the anger of all those leech-like special interests that were already salivating over the goodies they were going to get from Uncle Joe & Co.
And he did it, not for personal gain, but on the principle that it was the right thing to do for the country and all its citizens.

Although I have qualms about spending trillions more dollars to expand the social safety net at a time that the national debt is soaring and inflation is raging, there is a tragic component to Manchin single-handedly killing the president’s Build Back Better bill, which contains many features that are popular with wide swaths of the American people.
I wonder if the residents of West Virginia, one of the most impoverished states, recognize how inordinately they would have benefitted from the legislation and whether they will be resentful that the help many of them seek has been denied to them by one of their own.

A true American, Manchin has put a stop to Biden’s agenda to turn this country into a socialist nation and make us totally dependent on our government.
In effect, he has acted as a Santa Claus to the millions of Americans who have opposed the debacle known as “Build Back Better” that would have devastated our economy to the extent that a recession would have occurred.
Isn’t it about time that the rest of the Democratic Party follow suit and force Biden and his minions to revert back to the Trump-era policies that had our country as No. 1 in the world and respected by our enemies China, Russia and Iran?

Manchin is not bending to pressure from the left and those who want to give everything away in the hope of garnering enough votes to stay in power forever.
Manchin is a man of principle. It sickens me to listen to the nonsense put forth by Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi as well as Sens. Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer and the rest of their ilk, all because they believe in government control of our lives.
Manchin cares about the people of West Virginia, and he cares about the people and the welfare of these United States. It’s too bad that we don’t have more patriots like him.

When I first heard the news that the Manchin stood up to the pressure from the progressives up on Capitol Hill, I was elated.
He took a stand based on principle and refused to go along with the inflationary Build Back Better bill that the Biden White House has been trying to ram down the throats of the American people.
As someone who considers himself still a Democrat, it is more difficult by the day to watch all these Democrats blindly following orders from Biden, Pelosi and the Squad.
Sen. Manchin finally showed some guts and wouldn’t be pushed into backing a colossal waste of money — money we do not have.
While the Democrats and media are calling Manchin “the Grinch,” I think most Americans understood the courage it took for him to stand up and say no.
