Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump squared off tonight in the highly anticipated first debate of this year’s general election campaign.
With polls showing a virtual tie, tonight’s showdown was a chance for two candidates with historically high negatives to make their case to America’s voters.
NBC’s Lester Holt moderated tonight’s event, which was slated to center on three topic areas: “America’s Direction,” “Achieving Prosperity” and “Securing America.”
