Google’s new head of music Lyor Cohen sent his e-mail contacts a head-scratcher of a message on Friday.

Cohen announced: “Breaking News! Donald Trump Taps Lyor Cohen for Transition Team.”

That appeared to be a joke, since the e-mail detailed efforts by his record label, 300, to promote its artists such as “Highly Suspect” instead. The alternative rock group has a new studio album out.

“We believe GREAT ARTISTS rule — not glad-handling gossip of worthless industry chatter,” wrote Cohen.

Some are wondering what’s happening to his record label once he exits to spearhead Google’s record label renewal talks in December.

Co-founder of 300, Todd Moscowitz, recently left to create a new record label elsewhere in partnership with Universal Music Group. His new label is called Cold Heat.
