First lady Melania Trump hosted an awards ceremony Tuesday for the K-12 winners of a national artificial intelligence competition, telling the crowd, “You are our future.”
“AI inspires,” she told an audience in the White House East Room.
“Use this chapter of your life to seal away with your dreams. Dreams, to continue to build boldly and importantly to safeguard America’s leading position in the world of technology.”

The first lady has been a leader in AI for the Trump administration, hosting a summit of world leader spouses on technology and leading the Presidential AI Challenge, for which the awards were given out on Tuesday.
Melania Trump has been an evangelist for artificial intelligence, telling the challenge winners that it will bring the “democratization of intellect” and “open-mindedness toward cultural diversity.”
“Artificial intelligence gives our communities access to the largest amount of information over recorded in humanity’s history,” she said at the event in the White House East Room.
“This fundamental democratization of intellect will profoundly alter society, our industries, our social safety net, and even our open-mindedness toward cultural diversity. Wisdom is tolerance, and change will be enhanced at hyper speed.”
She called on the children to “keep using artificial intelligence as a muse to open new pathways and ultimately to achieve personal growth and success.”
Her event came as President Trump and his aides are aiming to build a partnership between the federal government and the artificial intelligence industry. Trump has teased an upcoming meeting with top AI executives at the White House, though no details have been released.
