City Council Speaker Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito — an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and avid supporter of Hilary Clinton — is expected to release a report Wednesday that says a Trump presidency would clobber New York City.
Officials said the study, which was done in-house by Council staff, was green-lighted because Mark-Viverito wanted to see how the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s policies would affect the local economy.
The report is being released at an Association for a Better New York breakfast.
Among its findings:
- If all of the city’s undocumented immigrants were deported, the city and state would lose almost $800 million in tax revenue.
- The city would see employment decline by over 340,000 jobs under Trump’s agenda – surpassing both the 2001 and 2008 recessions.
- There are almost 263,000 New Yorkers who come from nations where at least 50 percent of the population is Muslim.
- Workers residing in the city who were born in Muslim-majority countries contribute $14.2 billion annually to city’s economy.
Council reps could not explain Tuesday why a rival study wasn’t conducted outlining how a Clinton win would affect New York.
