President Trump’s former lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen is switching up his legal team, one of his current attorneys announced on Monday.
Lanny Davis — another lawyer of Cohen’s who now serves a largely public relations role — said the Trump turncoat is swapping out two others on his legal team.
“Michael Monico and Barry Spevack will represent Mr. Cohen going forward as he continues to cooperate with the Office of the Special Counsel, the Southern District of New York, the Office of the New York Attorney General’s Office as well as the committees of the US Congress seeking testimony from Mr. Cohen,” Davis said.
Monico is a former federal prosecutor from northern Illinois and Spevack is a veteran criminal defense lawyer.
The pair are replacing Guy Petrillo and Amy Lester, who repped Cohen in his two cases in Manhattan federal court.
Cohen first took a plea deal for arranging to pay hush-money to porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal over their claims that they had affairs with Trump.
He pleaded guilty a second time, admitting to violating campaign finance laws during the 2016 presidential race.
He was sentenced to three years in prison for those crimes and is set to turn himself in to serve his term by March 6.
Monico and Spevack said, “We look forward to helping Mr. Cohen fulfill what he has told us is his only mission — to tell the truth as he knows it and to turn the corner on his past life and taking ownership for his past mistakes by cooperating as best as he can with all governmental authorities in search of the truth.”
Cohen has been subpoenaed to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee next month, which Davis said has raised safety concerns for Cohen as did appearing in the House Oversight Committee because of remarks that Trump and lawyer Rudy Giuliani made about him and his family.
