Michael Cohen, the former lawyer and fixer for President Trump, will testify publicly to a House committee next Wednesday, the same day of the president’s highly anticipated meeting in Vietnam with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.

Cohen was expected to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform earlier this month, but his adviser Lanny Davis asked for a delay because of “threats” against Cohen by Trump and his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.

Rep. Elijah Cummings confirmed in a statement Wednesday that Cohen will appear next week.

“Congress has an obligation under the Constitution to conduct independent and robust oversight of the Executive Branch, and this hearing is one step in that process,” said Cummings, a Democrat from Maryland.

Trump will follow up his first summit last summer with Kim in Singapore by meeting with the North Korean president next Wednesday and Thursday in Hanoi.

Earlier Wednesday, Cohen, who pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations for making hush-money payments to two women who claimed they had affairs with Trump, got a 60-day reprieve before he has to enter a federal prison.

He was sentenced in December to three years in jail and was scheduled to begin serving his sentence on March 6.

But a Manhattan federal judge extended that reporting time until May 6 so he could recover from shoulder surgery.

“The schedule has now been set. Looking forward to the #American people hearing my story in my voice! #truth,” Cohen wrote on his Twitter page.

Cohen, who once proclaimed that he “would take a bullet” for Trump, is expected to testify about hush payments he made before the 2016 election to porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal to keep them quiet about affairs they allege they had with the president.

He will testify the next day to the House Intelligence Committee in a session closed to the public.
