WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he’ll know when his time serving President Trump is over by checking Twitter.
“I’m going to be there until he tweets me out of office,” Pompeo joked at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in his home state of Kansas.
Trump announced the firing of Pompeo’s predecessor, Rex Tillerson, via a tweet.
Pompeo assured the crowd that “at least today” he wasn’t going anywhere, calling his State Department gig the “job of a lifetime.”
Pompeo, a former congressman and Trump’s former CIA director, hasn’t closed the door on pursuing another elected position.
He’s ruled out a run in 2020, but could pursue one in 2024.
