Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney flatly declared Wednesday that Donald Trump won’t be the party’s White House nominee next year.
“I will support the Republican nominee. I don’t think that’s going to be Donald Trump,” Romney said at the Washington Ideas Forum.
“My party has historically nominated someone who is a mainstream conservative and someone who has a foundation of foreign policy that gives people confidence that they can guide the ship of state in troubled waters.”
The prediction came as a new poll showed Trump remains the candidate to beat.
