Former FBI Director James Comey was interviewed last year by special counsel Robert Mueller, who’s investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and any attempts by President Trump to obstruct justice, a report said Tuesday.

Comey was questioned about a series of memos he wrote after meeting with Trump at the White House, where the president asked him about ending the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, the New York Times reported.

Trump eventually fired Comey in May 2017.

The dismissal led Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to name Mueller, himself a former FBI director, as special counsel.

Flynn resigned his administration post in February after reports revealed he met with a Russian ambassador and didn’t inform the White House.

He pleaded guilty in December 2017 to charges of lying to the FBI as part of Mueller’s probe and is cooperating in the investigation.
