They honked their horns, shouted out windows and danced in the parks.
New Yorkers jubilantly celebrated Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential race after days of anxiously waiting for the election results — partying in the streets of President Trump’s hometown.
In a city that overwhelming backed Biden, residents banged pots in their windows, waved from their fire escapes and leaned on their car horns.
Celebrants danced in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park and Grand Army Plaza, where Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer joined the party. They rang bells outside the Barclays Center and amassed in Times Square where at least 1,000 people gathered to blow whistles wave American flags and Biden/Harris banners.
Christina Lopez, 29, who lives in Queens, banged on a metal baking pan at the Crossroads of the World.
“I’m very happy, relieved. I feel that a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It was close. There was some doubt,” Lopez said.
On the Upper West Side, crowds stood on the sidewalk and clapped. In the West Village, celebrants shouted “We won. We Won” and threw blue confetti in the air.

“I am very, very happy,” said Melcher, 41, a lawyer. “We waited for Fox News to call it. We wanted to make sure it was really official, but it’s an amazing feeling.”
She said when she heard the news she screamed.
“It a wonderful day,” she said. “It’s wonderful to see a black woman in this position.”
In Fort Greene, filmmaker Spike Lee popped a bottle of champagne in the street, according to a tweet.
Empty champagne bottles were spotted on the neighborhood’s sidewalks.
“I feel a sense of relief,” said Mike Marino, 28, a campaign consultant who was celebrating in the West Village, his face flushed red. “It’s nice to be on solid ground for a minute.”
