WASHINGTON — Rap queen Nicki Minaj knocked Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom during a Wednesday panel discussion rolling out so-called “Trump Accounts” for babies and young children.
“He doesn’t want to make a change. Absolutely not,” Minaj told Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in DC.
“Newscum,” she added, adopting the president’s nickname for the governor, “only wants to be seen. He does not want to do anything credible with his time or life.”
Attendees applauded the “Pound The Alarm” singer for taking a swipe at the Trump critic and rumored 2028 Democratic presidential contender.
Nicki Minaj slammed the governor of California as she went to a Trump accounts event at the White House. REUTERS“I knew that would get them clapping,” Minaj added with a laugh.
The 43-year-old, Trinidad-born and Queens-raised artist was touting the Trump administration’s launch of the tax-deferred $1,000 accounts for kids this coming July.
All babies born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028 are eligible to receive Trump Accounts with the initial seed funding.
Additionally, parents can max their contributions at $5,000 annually, while employers can put in up to $2,500 each year.
Minaj confirmed that she would be contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars of her own money to her fans’ children’s accounts — after being welcomed onstage by the president earlier in the event.
“Nicki makes a lot of cash,” Trump said before joking, “not as much as Michael Dell,” the billionaire businessman and investor who is donating a massive $6.25 billion to help set up the program.
“I am probably the president’s number one fan,” Minaj said after taking the stage and holding hands with the president. “And that’s not going to change.”
The rapper accused Newsom of not wanting to make things better. AP“What people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more,” she continued. “And it’s going to motivate all of us to support him more.”
“We’re not going to let them get away with bullying him. And you know, the smear campaigns. It’s not going to work,” she added.
“He has a lot of force behind him and God is protecting him.”
Also Wednesday, Trump criticized California officials’ response to wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles last year — and appointed Environmental Protection Agency boss Lee Zeldin to fix permitting issues.
“I think we’re going to override the local authorities, because they’re never gonna have it,” he told Zeldin while still delivering his remarks to attendees.
The president told The Post last week that he had signed an executive order forcing the Small Business Administration and Federal Emergency Management Agency to adopt regulations within 90 days to pre-empt state and local zoning approval processes.
That will allow builders to self-certify compliance to the federal agencies.
Trump and his administration have criticized both Newsom and local officials for the slow response.
Around 16,000 buildings were torn apart by the blaze in January 2025, but just 2,600 permits have been issued one year later, Los Angeles city and county officials have said.
