A Palestinian man was killed Monday after he tried to stab cops near Jerusalem while President Trump visited the city, Israeli police said.

The man was shot in the West Bank after running with a knife at officers near Abu Dis, a Palestinian town on the outskirts of Jerusalem, police spokeswoman Luba Samri said.

Israeli police were not hurt in the incident, officials said.

There was no indication that the stabbing attempt was linked to Trump’s visit, Agence France-Presse reported.

A wave of unrest that broke out in October 2015 has claimed the lives of 246 Palestinians, 42 Israelis, two Americans, two Jordanians, an Eritrean, a Sudanese and a British student.

Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, Israeli authorities said.

Israel has blamed the violence on incitement by Palestinian leaders compounded on social media sites that encourage attacks.

Palestinians say the violence stems from pent-up anger after decades of Israeli rule in territory they claim for a future state.
