In response to President Trump’s admission he would accept campaign dirt from foreign countries, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday announced a new legislative push to prevent foreign collusion.

The legislation would bar campaigns from sharing sensitive information with foreign powers, clarify rules against accepting help from outside sources and create a “duty to report foreign interventions in our elections,” Pelosi said.

“This is an invasion of our democracy. What the president said last night showed clearly — once again — that he does not know the difference between right and wrong and that’s the nicest thing I can say about him,” she said.

Trump on Wednesday said he’d happily take dirt on his 2020 opponents from sources such as Russia or China.

“I think I’d want to hear it,” Trump said. “There isn’t anything wrong with listening.”

Not so, Pelosi countered.

“It’s against the law. It’s so against any sense of decency,” she said. “The law says no contributions — including in-kind — but, if it needs more clarity, then we will go to the duty to report.”

The push comes on the heels of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report outlining how Trump’s campaign sought dirt on Hillary Clinton from Kremlin-linked Russians. Mueller cleared the Trump campaign of collusion, but he also did not absolve the president of accusations that Trump tried to cover up his links to Russia.
