Former Vice President Mike Pence has endorsed former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in her bid to be Arkansas’ governor, he announced in a statement.

In the statement, released Monday by Sanders’ campaign as well as on Pence’s Twitter account, the former vice president praised his ex-colleague for her conservative, Christian background.

“Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a Christian, a conservative, and a proud Arkansan who will fight for the people of Arkansas, stand with law enforcement, promote lower taxes, champion school choice, and more,” Pence said.

“Sarah will be a great Governor and has my full support,” he added.

Pence’s endorsement came one day after former President Donald Trump made a surprise appearance at a campaign event for the former press secretary.

“​Great weekend on the campaign trail featuring a surprise appearance at one of my events by President Trump!​” Sanders wrote in a social media post alongside a picture of the two of them at the gathering.

The former commander-in-chief had already endorsed Sanders in her gubernatorial bid in late January, just after she launched her campaign.

At the time, Trump said of his former press secretary, “Sarah is strong on Borders, tough on Crime, and fully supports the Second Amendment and our great law enforcement officers.”

“She loves our Military and Veterans — and her home state of Arkansas,” he added. “Sarah will be a GREAT Governor, and she has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Pence has been largely out of the media spotlight since leaving office, making only a few public appearances and offering few public statements.

The former vice president is currently operating out of a new office based in northern Virginia.

During a meeting with House Republicans last month, he revealed that he was working on launching his own political organization to promote the Trump agenda.

He told supporters in late January that he planned to move back to Indiana by this summer, and is splitting his time between there and DC until then.
