WASHINGTON — Ted Cruz said Monday the public would “revolt” if the GOP establishment stripped the presidential nomination away from himself or Donald Trump and awarded it to someone else who hasn’t run in any primaries.

“This fevered pipe dream of Washington that at the convention they would parachute in some white knight who will save the Washington establishment, it is nothing less than a pipe dream,” Cruz said while campaigning in Madison, Wis., in advance of Tuesday’s high-stakes GOP primary.

“It ain’t gonna happen. If it did happen, the people would quite rightly revolt,” Cruz said.

Former GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson, who is backing Trump, said Democrats would be “dancing in the streets” if Cruz or Trump were denied the nomination.

“If it’s not Sen. Cruz or Mr. Trump . . . you’re going to create so much friction,” Carson said.

Cruz dumped on the “white knight” scenario as polls showed him positioned to possibly deliver an embarrassing setback to Trump in a state where the real-estate mogul once held a substantial lead.

GOP insiders have been floating a plan to put forward House Speaker Paul Ryan if no one wins the nomination on the first ballot.
