President Trump basked in a warm round of applause from the crowd as he arrived on the field at the 120th Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia Saturday.
Trump clapped and waved to the midshipmen and cadets in the stands, then presided over the coin toss at midfield, wearing a bright red “Keep America Great” cap emblazoned with an oversized “45” on the side.
He flipped the coin himself before the packed house at Lincoln Financial Field, which came up tails. Navy won the toss.
Trump visited both locker rooms before the game’s opening ceremonies began, shaking hands with players and boasting about a new rule he instituted that will allow service academy athletes to pursue professional sports careers before they serve their required stints in the military.
“So you’ll go out and you’ll make a fortune, and after you’re finished with your professional career, you’ll go and you’ll serve,” he said. “And everybody’s thrilled.”
This is Trump’s second time as president attending the annual match between the West Point Black Knights and the Naval Academy Midshipmen.
To avoid playing favorites, he’s spending time on both sides of the stadium as the game progresses.
