US women’s soccer all-star Megan Rapinoe confirmed on Tuesday that she’s accepted an invitation for her World Cup-winning team to visit Congress.
Rapinoe shared the news on CNN, saying the invites came from a number of elected officials, including Democrats Sen. Chuck Schumer, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Schumer, who on Monday celebrated the team’s win by calling for equal pay for women, said on Twitter that he’s looking forward to scheduling the visit.
Shortly after the team landed in Newark on Monday ahead of Wednesday’s Big Apple ticker-tape parade, Rapinoe reiterated to reporters her refusal to go the White House.
“We’ve said publicly, I’ve said publicly, I think most of the team, if not everybody, I think everybody is with me. We don’t want to go to the White House,” she said.
She had earlier shared her thoughts on a prospective visit with President Trump in a more direct manner.
“I’m not going to the f—–g White House,” she declared in an interview with Eight by Eight Magazine that was released last month.
