"We are all descendants of ordinary people who achieved extraordinary things," he added, name-checking now-vice presidential nominee JD Vance, whose bestselling memoir "Hillbilly Elegy" tells the story of his rise from a hardscrabble childhood in Ohio to a US Marine and Yale Law School graduate.

Comperatore, 50, was a volunteer firefighter and father of two who shielded his family as gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at the Butler Farm Show grounds.

One of his shots struck Trump in the right ear, while more wounded two others.

Fentanyl victim's mom says Biden 'should be voted out of office' for record deaths

By Steven Nelson

Southern California mom of four Anne Fundner told RNC-goers Tuesday that Joe Biden deserves to be "voted out of office" for failing to do more to stop illicit fentanyl imports — which have killed more than 225,000 Americans since he took office.

Fundner, whose 15-year-old son died in February 2022 of an accidental fentanyl overdose, said "tens of thousands of American innocent children" died from the potent synthetic opioid since Biden entered the White House and "for that alone, they should be voted out of office."

"We need a president who will seal the border, aggressively prosecute drug dealers and stop communist China from poisoning our children. This is not a red or blue issue — this is a red, white and blue issue," she said.

Fundner said "Joe Biden does nothing" on the issue and "I hold Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, the border czar — what a joke — and [California Gov.] Gavin Newsom and every Democrat who supports open borders responsible for the death of my son."

"We owe it to our children to elect a president who will win the war against fentanyl," she said.

Republicans have accused Biden, whose family had two major business dealings with Chinese government-linked entities, of being too soft on China on a variety of issues, including stopping exports of synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, which are smuggled across the southern border — both through and between legal points of entry — and through the international shipping and mail systems.

Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping in November reached an agreement that both sides said would crack down on the largely China-manufactured compound, which is increasingly mixed into non-opioid drugs, killing unwitting users — though Biden did not publicly press Xi on fentanyl.

As president, Trump claimed he convinced Xi to wage a crackdown featuring the death penalty for exporters.

An estimated 75,000 Americans died from fentanyl and related synthetic opioids in 2023, according to provisional Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data — after a record roughly 76,000 died in 2022, up from about 72,000 in 2021 during Biden's first year in office.

There were nearly 58,000 fentanyl-linked deaths in 2020 during Trump's final full year in office — up from about 36,000 in 2019 and about 31,000 in 2018.

"Mr. Trump, Rod Stewart is here," Carson recalled someone telling Trump.

"I don't care. This is Ben Carson," Trump replied, per the former HUD Secretary.

Carson also delivered a characteristically tough attack against President Biden — by his standards at least.

"We have a president who if you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all," he jabbed.

Brother of Maryland mom Rachel Morin murdered by migrant says Biden-Harris haven't offered condolences

By Josh Christenson

The brother of a Maryland mother murdered by an illegal Salvadorian migrant said President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have still not offered his family their condolences.

"Open borders are often portrayed as compassionate and virtuous, but there is nothing compassionate about allowing violent criminals into our country and robbing children of their mother," said Michael Morin, the brother of Rachel Morin.

"My sister's death as preventable. The monster arrested for killing Rachel entered the US unlawfully after killing a woman in el Salvador," he told the convention. "Yet to this day we have not heard from Joe Biden or Kamala Harris."
