One piece of head-scratching news coming out of the RNC convention this year concerns the list of food vendors, as one, in particular, has made waves on social media.
Vegan barbeque, supplied by Gray Jett Cafe.
The vendor’s listing on the 2024 Milwaukee 2024 Host Committee’s website notes that they provide “a full service Traditional, Vegan, Vegetarian menu.”
NOTUS Reporter Reese Gorman shared an image of the “Vegan BBQ” stand Monday on X, with the caption “RNC is going Woke.”
PETA even replied to Gorman’s tweet stating that “Vegan food is for everyone” accompanied by emojis of a winking face and a plant.
Why oh why have the Republicans – the party that traditionally backs farmers, ranchers, and producers – buddied up this ungodly creation of fake meat?
Republicans love attacking weak liberal men as “soy boys” but judging by the presence of this food vendor at the RNC, some of these “soy boys” may actually BE Republicans in 2024.
In the corner of Gorman’s image a segment of the menu can be seen, including a listing for a “vegan BBQ brisket.”
Although veganism is traditionally associated with more left-wing political ideologies, not even all Democrats are in favor of imitation meat and dairy products.
In 2023, a group of bipartisan Senators spearheaded by Wisconsin’s own Tammy Baldwin introduced Senate Bill 549, The DAIRY PRIDE Act, pushing back on FDA guidance under the Biden Administration which allowed “nut, oat, soy, and other non-dairy products to use the name “milk”.
In 2023, the National Milk Producer’s Foundation noted that the DAIRY PRIDE Act was important because “the labeling of plant-based alternatives as “milk” conveys a nutritional equivalency that is not accurate. The trend in mislabeling is expanding each year, and needs to be corrected.”
Although a House compliment to the legislation was introduced by Republican Pennsylvania Congressman John Joyce, the bill didn’t get a vote in either chamber.
