Veteran “Saturday Night Live” host Steve Martin returned to the show this week to portray President Trump’s longtime confidant Roger Stone, fresh off his indictment on seven counts including making false statements and witness tempering.

The show opened with a spoof of Fox News’ “Tucker Carson Tonight” with the host, played by SNL cast member Alex Moffat, labeling the Republican strategist’s arrest late last week as “ludicrous.”

“What a fun couple of days! I’m lovin’ the ride. Go Nixon!” Martin’s Stone says. “Honestly. I think I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. I mean seven felonies? How cool is that?”

“But Mr. Stone,” Moffat as Carlson interjects. “What I think you’re really trying to say is that you’re a feeble old man, right?”

“Oh yeah, right, the pity thing,” SNL Stone replies, blinking wildly in his signature round glasses. “I’m just a poor, helpless old man. I’m 66. I’m almost as old as Sting.”

The “cold open” ends with Martin as Stone sending a message to Trump: “Pardon me!” he implores.

The real Stone, an informal adviser on Trump’s 2016 campaign, has said that he will plead not guilty to the charges, which stem from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

He’s set to be arraigned Tuesday in Washington, DC.
