A spokesman for the British prime minister said it was “wrong” for President Trump to share videos of Muslims supposedly committing violent acts from the Twitter account of the leader of the far-right Britain First group.

“It is wrong for the President to have done this,” ​a spokesman for Prime Minister Theresa May said on Wednesday. ”Britain First seeks to divide communities through their use of hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions. They cause anxiety to law-abiding people.​”​

​Trump on Wednesday retweeted the videos, which carried a warning that it contains “sensitive material,” from ​the ​account of Jayda Fransen, the deputy leader of ​the anti-immigration group in Britain. ​

“British people overwhelmingly reject the prejudiced rhetoric of the far-right which is the antithesis of the values that this country represents: decency tolerance and respect​,​”​ the spokesman said.​

The unverified videos show a boy on crutches being beat, a man smashing a statue of the Virgin Mary and a group of men tossing two others off a roof and then pummeling them with their hands and feet.

The three are titled “VIDEO: Muslim migrant beats on Dutch boy on crutches,” “VIDEO: Muslim Destroys a Statue of Virgin Mary!​”​ and “VIDEO: Islamist mob pushes teenage boy off roof and beats him to death!​”

The US Council on American-Islamic Relations also criticized Trump for retweeting Fransen.

“He is clearly telling members of his base that they should hate Islam and Muslims. It amounts to incitement to violence against American Muslims,” said a statment from Nihad Awad, the group’s executive director.

The White House shrugged off the criticism, saying “these are the real threats we have to talk about.”

“Whether it’s a real video, the threat is real and that is what the president is talking about,” said Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
