President Trump holds early-morning phone calls with his top advisers to vent and strategize amid the widening FBI probe into Russia’s election meddling, according to a report.

Three senior White House officials told the Washington Post that Trump’s lawyers and spokespeople review the latest headlines with him and devise a battle plan against the special counsel and what he considers the “fake news” media.

The early-rising president famously takes his frustrations out via Twitter and advisers still hope to curb his social media outbursts before he arrives for work in the Oval Office. The Twitter-fighting tactic doesn’t always work, however, based on the reaction of one White House adviser who laughed when asked about it by the newspaper.

Trump has been especially active on Twitter this week.

Trump has dismissed the Russian investigations as a ploy cooked up by the Democrats because he defeated Hillary Clinton. He’s used selected testimony from ongoing congressional panels to claim his innocence.
