Stay up to date with live coverage of the Trump administration and national politics Tuesday as the president pardons two turkeys named Gobble and Waddle and the latest on the 19-point Ukraine peace plan.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump pardoned the turkeys at noon before they travel to Palm Beach, Florida, for the holiday.

Instead of becoming a Thanksgiving showstopper, Gobble and Waddle will be sent to farms to be protected and cared for. The two birds had a luxurious evening before their pardoning and spent the night at the Willard InterContinental Hotel.

In other news, the US and Ukraine agreed to a new 19-point peace plan and nixed one of the controversial provisions from the draft reported last week.

Leavitt denies 'completely made up' report Trump was considering firing Kash Patel

By Ryan King

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt flatly denied a report from MS NOW, previously known as MSNBC, that President Trump is thinking about firing FBI Director Kash Patel.

Leavitt posted a picture of Trump smiling next to Patel in the Oval Office to belie the story.

"When this Fake News published, I was in the Oval Office, where President Trump was meeting with his law enforcement team, including FBI Director Kash Patel," Leavitt recounted on X.

"I read the headline to the President and he laughed. He said: 'What? That’s totally false. Come on Kash, let’s take a picture to show them you’re doing a great job!' Do not believe the Fake News!"

Trump: 'Only a few remaining points of disagreement' between Ukraine, Russia

By Samuel Chamberlain

President Trump has announced that special envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Russia and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to travel to Ukraine as part of the final push toward a peace deal ending Moscow's invasion of its neighbor.

"The original 28-Point Peace Plan, which was drafted by the United States, has been fine-tuned, with additional input from both sides, and there are only a few remaining points of disagreement," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "In the hopes of finalizing this Peace Plan, I have directed my Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to meet with President Putin in Moscow and, at the same time, Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will be meeting with the Ukrainians.

"I will be briefed on all progress made, along with Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

"I look forward to hopefully meeting with President Zelenskyy and President Putin soon, but ONLY when the deal to end this War is FINAL or, in its final stages. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter, and let’s all hope that PEACE can be accomplished AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!"

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser won't run for fourth term

By Samuel Chamberlain

District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Tuesday that she would not seek a fourth term in 2026.

"It has been the honor of my life to be your Mayor," Bowser, 53, wrote on a post on X. "Together, we have built a legacy of success of which I am intensely proud.

"With a grateful heart, I am announcing that I will not seek a fourth term," added the mayor, whose tenure has seen her occasionally butt heads with President Trump over federal control of the District -- including the summer deployment of National Guard troops in the city.

"For the next 12 months, let's run through the tape and keep winning for DC."

How Army Secretary Dan Driscoll rose from Trump’s ‘drone guy’ to Ukraine-Russia peace point man

By Steven Nelson and Caitlin Doornbos

WASHINGTON — Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is the latest unconventional US emissary attempting to strong-arm Ukraine and Russia into sealing a peace deal as President Trump tries to end almost four years of war.

Driscoll, the 39-year-old “best friend” of Vice President JD Vance, wrapped up two days of meetings with a Russian delegation in Abu Dhabi Tuesday after securing Ukraine’s tentative agreement to a revised peace framework following weekend talks in Switzerland.

The Army secretary’s meteoric rise has its roots in the White House tapping Driscoll’s office to boost the Pentagon’s counter-drone capabilities, which languish behind both Russia and Ukraine.

Trump re-pardons Biden turkeys in autopen jab — and jokes he considered naming this year’s birds ‘Chuck and Nancy’

By Steven Nelson

WASHINGTON — President Trump hosted the annual turkey pardon at the White House Tuesday — joking that he was also re-pardoning last year’s birds that only got an “autopen” reprieve and saying he considered naming this year’s gobblers “Chuck and Nancy.”

Former President Joe Biden “used an autopen for last year’s turkey pardons,” the president joked, calling them “totally invalid,” a contention he’s made of the Democrat’s late-term grants so often that an autopen portrait took the place of Biden’s picture in the White House photo gallery.

“The turkeys known as Peach and Blossom last year have been located and they were on their way to be processed… but I have stopped that journey and I am officially pardoning them, and they will not be served as Thanksgiving dinner,” he joked.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says there’s ‘very good chance’ Trump names new Fed chair by Christmas

By Taylor Herzlich

There is “a very good chance” that President Trump names a replacement for Fed Chair Jerome Powell by Christmas, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday.

Bessent, who has been leading search efforts for a new Fed leader, told CNBC he still has one interview left and is not ready to speculate on who might succeed Powell, whom Trump has said he’d “love” to fire.

Ukraine peace plan expected to be rejected by Russia — likely extending war until after Christmas at minimum: sources

By Ronny Reyes

Russia is expected to reject the new 19-point cease-fire deal drafted by the US and Ukraine, suggesting the war will last at least through Christmas, sources told The Post.

The White House has said it is working to secure a deal after Russian President Vladimir Putin showed interest in an original  28-plan version of the plan that heavily favored Moscow.

But sources aware of the situation suggested Russia is set to reject the plan and launch a media blitz ripping the US, claiming President Trump and Putin agreed in principle at their Alaska summit to the previous 28-point plan that handed Russia virtually everything it wanted.

White House: 'Tremendous progress' on Ukraine, 'delicate' details remain

By Samuel Chamberlain

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has issued a statement on the progress of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine after weeks of talks on three continents.

"Over the past week, the United States has made tremendous progress towards a peace deal by bringing both Ukraine and Russia to the table," Leavitt wrote on X.

"There are a few delicate, but not insurmountable, details that must be sorted out and will require further talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States."

US, Ukraine agree on new 19-point peace plan that’s vastly different from Trump’s previous one: reports

By Caitlin Doornbos and Ronny Reyes

WASHINGTON — A new version of a peace plan worked out between senior Washington and Kyiv delegations is proving more palatable to Ukrainians — and would remove several provisions that were previously described by US officials as “maximalist demands” by Moscow.

The new plan, said to include about 19 points, would nix one of the most controversial provisions of the 28-point plan reported last week — that Ukraine would have to give up territory in the Donbas that Russia has been unable to conquer in more than 11 years of war there, The Post can reveal.

Instead, the issue of territorial claims will be left to President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to hammer out at a later date, according to two people familiar with the discussions.

By Samuel Chamberlain

That’s a lot of kibble.

Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV), whose pet English bulldog Babydog has been a DC darling since he took office in January, has agreed to pay more than $5 million to settle a tax debt dating to 2009.

The Justice Department filed a complaint in Beckley, WV, federal court Monday claiming that Justice and his wife Cathy owed $5,164,739.75 in “federal income taxes, penalties, and interest” as of Aug. 4.
