President Trump ripped House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s vow to launch impeachment proceedings — saying in a flurry of tweets Tuesday that Democrats just wanted to “demean” his appearance at the UN General Assembly.
“Such an important day at the United Nations, so much work and so much success, and the Democrats purposely had to ruin and demean it with more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage. So bad for our Country!” he wrote in the first of four tweets on the topic.
“Pelosi, Nadler, Schiff and, of course, Maxine Waters! Can you believe this?” he wrote, referring to Reps. Jerry Nadler, Maxine Waters and Adam Schiff, the heads of House committees probing his administration.
“They never even saw the transcript of the call. A total Witch Hunt!” he continued, adding “PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT” in a final tweet from Trump Tower, where he is staying while attending the UN gathering.
Pelosi announced about 5 p.m. Tuesday evening that the House would move forward on impeachment proceedings.
“The president has admitted to asking the president of Ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically,” she said, accusing the president of “betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security, and betrayal of the integrity of our elections” by allegedly pressuring Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, who served on the board of a Ukrainian natural gas business tainted by corruption.
“Therefore, today I’m announcing the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry.”
About an hour later, Trump added in another tweet that the Ukraine government was also confused as to why Democrats moved to impeach him over their phone call.
“Secretary of State Pompeo recieved permission from Ukraine Government to release the transcript of the telephone call I had with their President,” Trump wrote.
“They don’t know either what the big deal is. A total Witch Hunt Scam by the Democrats!” he added.
