Trump-backed candidate Ron DeSantis won Florida’s Republican nomination for governor on Tuesday night.
Congressman DeSantis, who proudly boasted about his support from the president, easily bested state Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, in a race called by The Associated Press about an hour after polls closed.
In November, DeSantis will face Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum who scored an upset win over US Rep. Gwen Graham (D-Fla.), the daughter of former Gov. and US Sen. Bob Graham, Fox News projected.
DeSantis gained some national fame this cycle running a campy ad with his wife extolling what a great dad he is – showing their young kids how to build a wall and say the words “Make America great again.”
In a tweet Monday, Trump said of DeSantis: “Strong on Crime, Borders and wants Low Taxes. He will be a great Governor and has my full and total Endorsement!”
