President Trump took to Twitter again Saturday to back anti-coronavirus lockdown protesters who mocked a News 12 Long Island reporter as “fake news” and “enemy of the people.”
Video of the rally, held Thursday in Commack, has nearly 12 million views and has been retweeted 34,000 times — three times alone by the president. Reporter Kevin Vesey shot the footage as part of his coverage.
“People can’t get enough of this. Great people!” Trump posted Saturday, retweeting the video for the third time. He tweeted the link twice Friday night.
Several protesters called Vesey out by name, and one attacked him for his station’s decision to stop airing Trump’s daily COVID-19 briefings.
After the encounter, Vesey tweeted: “The level of anger directed at the media from these protestors was alarming. As always, I will tell a fair and unbiased story today.”
CNN’s Brian Stelter, who covers the media, blamed Trump for the vitriol.
The president, however, didn’t appear to see it that way Friday night.
“FAKE NEWS IS NOT ESSENTIAL” he tweeted.
