President Trump endorsed reported plans by Kurdish groups to launch an incursion into Iran in hopes of fomenting a broader popular uprising against the Tehran regime and potentially earning their own state.

“I think it’s wonderful if they want to do that,” Trump told Reuters in a Thursday interview.

There were conflicting reports Wednesday about whether Iranian Kurdish fighters had crossed the border from Iraq.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt denied reporting by CNN that the Trump administration was arming the Kurds for an invasion — saying Trump had not “agreed to any such plan.”
