A day after CNN and several prominent Democrats were targeted with explosive devices, President Trump blamed the media for the angry political climate.
“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News,” Trump tweeted early Thursday, hours after another device was discovered at Robert De Niro’s Tribeca eatery.
“It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!” the president added.
His comments come a day after CNN’s Manhattan offices were evacuated after a suspicious package addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan was discovered in the mail room.
The president used similar rhetoric at a political rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday, saying “the media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility.”
And at a political rally in Montana last week, Trump reminded the crowd that Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-Montana) once assaulted a reporter, saying that “any guy that can do a body slam, he’s my kind of guy.”
