The string of bombings terrorizing Austin is the work of a “very, very sick individual or individuals,” President Trump said Tuesday.
“The bombings in Austin are terrible,” Trump said during a Tuesday morning meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in the Oval Office.
He said authorities were “working to get to the bottom of it.”
“We have to find them as soon as possible,” Trump said.
Trump’s comments came the same day as an explosion at a FedEx distribution center near San Antonio, where an Austin-bound bomb detonated.
Investigators said there was also a second bomb at the facility that hadn’t exploded.
The latest package bombs are linked to four other bombings that have shaken the Texas capital this month, killing two people and injuring four.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump “mourns for the victims” of the attacks in a tweet Tuesday.
“We are committed to bringing perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice,” she wrote.
Sanders also said there is “no apparent nexus to terrorism at this time.”
Austin police said they are still probing possible motives for the bombings and haven’t entirely ruled out racism or terrorism.
The two people killed in the explosions — who had parcel bombs dropped off on their front steps — were African-American, and a woman injured in the third blast is Hispanic.
Congressional Black Caucus members called for the bombings to be classified as “terrorist attacks” Monday — and pushed for officials to determine whether they are “ideologically or racially motivated.”
