President Trump blasted the New York Times in a tweet on Thursday for obstructing the GOP-backed tax reform plan and accused the newspaper of being a “pipe organ for the Democratic Party.”
“The Failing @nytimes, the pipe organ for the Democrat Party, has become a virtual lobbyist for them with regard to our massive Tax Cut Bill. They are wrong so often that now I know we have a winner!,” Trump posted on Twitter.
He also took offense at The Gray Lady’s editorial board for urging readers to reach out to their senators and tell them to oppose the tax plan.
”The Failing @nytimes has totally gone against the Social Media Guidelines that they installed to preserve some credibility after many of their biased reporters went Rogue! @foxandfriends,” Trump wrote.
The New York Times editorial board on Wednesday posted on #thetaxbillhurts its reasons for opposing the plan and listed the names and contact information for senators – including John McCain and Jeff Flake, both Republicans of Arizona – who are still in the undecided column.
“Here is today’s editorial: GOP senators can follow the will of their donors & vote to take money from the middle class and give it to the wealthiest people in the world. Or they can vote no, to protect the public,” one of the tweets said.
The Republican-controlled Senate voted along party lines – 52-48 – on Wednesday to begin debate on the measure.
Trump has said he wants a bill ready for his signature by Christmas.
The House earlier in November passed their version.
