President Trump accused social-media sites of bias against his political allies on Saturday, vowing not to let their policies stand.
“Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices,” he posted at 7:23 a.m. “Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen.”
Prominent conservatives have complained for months that Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and other sites have been throttling their content and restricting access to their posts.
The most recent was Prager University, a right-leaning nonprofit that posts videos on economics and social issues.
“We’re being heavily censored on @Facebook,” the group tweeted Friday. “Our last 9 posts are reaching 0 of our 3 million followers. At least two videos were deleted last night for ‘hate speech’ ” — including one called “Make Men Masculine Again.”
Facebook reinstated the videos on Saturday and apologized, saying they were “mistakenly removed.”
Many Trump supporters have accused Twitter of “shadowbanning” — in which their posts are allegedly suppressed in followers’ news feeds and their profiles hidden from readers who search for them.
Republican Party chair Ronna McDaniel and conservative Reps. Devin Nunes, Mark Meadows, Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz suffered that treatment in July, Vice News reported — but Democrats didn’t.
The companies have denied that they engage in viewpoint discrimination. Instead, they contend that their efforts to silence racist posts and other offensive content have had a spillover effect on mainstream conservatives.
As part of those efforts, Twitter on Tuesday issued a weeklong suspension against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, infamous for his claim that the Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax.
It appears that Trump isn’t buying the explanation.
“Too many voices are being destroyed, some good & some bad, and that cannot be allowed to happen,” he tweeted Saturday. “Let everybody participate, good & bad, and we will all just have to figure it out!”
In another tweet, Trump bashed former CIA Chief John Brennan hours after Brennan called the president “drunk with power” for removing his security clearance.
“He will go down as easily the WORST in history,” Trump fumed. “He has become … a loudmouth, partisan, political hack who cannot be trusted with the secrets of our country!”
