President Trump on Monday called a CNN report “false” after the network said the FBI was investigating an incident Friday in which a dozen of his supporters in pickup trucks surrounded a Biden campaign bus.
“This story is FALSE. They did nothing wrong. But the ANTIFA Anarchists, Rioters and Looters, who have caused so much harm and destruction in Democrat run cities, are being seriously looked at!” Trump tweeted.
The commander-in-chief was responding to a tweet from CNN reporter Ana Cabrera stating that a law enforcement source confirmed a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into the caught-on-video highway confrontation that led the Biden campaign to cancel multiple events in the key battleground state.
The FBI has since confirmed in a statement that its San Antonio division is investigating the incident.
The Texas Tribune also reported the FBI investigation and claimed there was at least one collision between a campaign staffer’s car and the caravan of Trump cars, which were waving flags and honking their horns as they slowed the bus to a crawl.
Neither Biden nor running mate Kamala Harris was on the bus, which was carrying campaign surrogates.
Trump on Sunday called supporters who swarmed his opponent’s bus “patriots” and defended their actions.
“In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong. Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people!” he wrote in a tweet.
