President Trump on Tuesday spoke to the families of four soldiers who were killed during an ambush in Niger earlier this month.

Trump’s press secretary Sarah Sanders said the president offered his condolences and told them “their family’s extraordinary sacrifice to the country will never be forgotten.”

The calls came after Trump was criticized for not immediately making a public statement about the Oct 4 attack that killed four Army Green Berets.

The Defense Department said Tuesday they are conducting a review of the mission that led to soldiers’ deaths.
