President Trump put out an exultant statement Thursday following the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey.
“JUSTICE IN AMERICA!” Trump proclaimed in a Truth Social post. “One of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to is James Comey, the former Corrupt Head of the FBI.”
“Today, he was indicted by a Grand Jury on two felony counts for various illegal and unlawful acts.”
Trump celebrated Comey’s indictment on Truth Social, ripping the ex-FBI director as “one of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to.”
Comey was indicted on charges of making false statements and obstruction of justice, related to testimony he provided to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Sept. 30, 2020.
In an exchange during the hearing with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Comey denied authorizing leaks to media outlets related to FBI investigations into alleged collusion between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russian officials, and a separate probe into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.
“That statement was false, because, as JAMES B. COMEY JR. then and there knew, he in fact had authorized PERSON 3 to serve as an anonymous source in news reports regarding an FBI investigation concerning PERSON 1,” read the two-page indictment.
Comey, 64, faces up to five years in prison if convicted of both counts.
President Trump also said that Comey “placed a cloud over the entire nation.” AFP via Getty ImagesHe is expected to surrender on Friday morning, according to CNN.
“What they did was so terrible and so corrupt,” Trump said of those behind the Russia collusion investigation, in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“He is a very corrupt person. He was absolutely a terrible man for what this country stood for,” the president said of the indicted former FBI director.

“My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I’m innocent, so let’s have a trial and keep the faith,” he added.

REUTERSComey — who served as FBI director from 2013 until Trump fired him in 2017 — has long been despised by Trump because of the Russia collusion investigation, which the president has repeatedly called a “hoax” and a “witch hunt.”
“He has been so bad for our Country, for so long, and is now at the beginning of being held responsible for his crimes against our Nation,” Trump wrote in his post.
Adding, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

When asked by Fox News Digital if former CIA Director John Brennan, who is being investigated for allegedly making false statements to Congress related to the Trump-Russia probe, should also be charged, the president responded: “We’ll have to see what happens.”
“It is up to the Justice Department, but I can tell you, it is a group of people that was very disappointing,” Trump added. “This makes Watergate look like peanuts.”
“They tried to destroy our country.”
