President Trump celebrated the release of an American student from an Iranian prison with a tweet that trolled his predecessor — and flattered the mullahs who held Xiyue Wang for more than three years.

“Taken during the Obama Administration (despite $150 Billion gift), returned during the Trump Administration,” Trump posted Saturday. “Thank you to Iran on a very fair negotiation. See, we can make a deal together!”

Wang was released in a prisoner exchange that sent a biologist who was accused of violating US trade sanctions back to Iran.

The deal was brokered by Swiss diplomats, administration officials said.

US sanctions, meant to push Iran into making a nuclear deal after Trump withdrew from a pact negotiated by the Obama Administration, have put a squeeze on Iran’s economy, leading to violent riots over soaring gas prices.
