President Trump on Monday defended his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani over his appearance last week on Chris Cuomo’s CNN show in which he first denied that he’d mentioned Joe Biden’s son to Ukrainian officials only to admit seconds later that he had.

The former mayor was on the air to shoot down reports that he and President Trump had pressured Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to open a probe into Hunter Biden’s dealings with a gas company in the country. The president praised his longtime friend and ripped CNN while also mocking Cuomo as “Fredo,” the weakest of the Corleone brothers from “The Godfather.”

“I think he was excellent. I watched him the other night and I haven’t watched that show in a long time. I don’t watch CNN because it’s fake news,” Trump said in the midst of meetings with world leaders on the first day of the UN’s general Assembly.

“But I watched Rudy take apart Fredo. Fredo’s performance was incompetent, Rudy took him apart. The press doesn’t give him credit because they take little tiny snippets where — wherever Rudy was a little bit, if he mispronounces a word, they’ll show that but they won’t show the whole,” Trump insisted.

“Rudy Giuliani took Fredo to the cleaners. First time I’ve watched CNN in a long time because I hate to watch it because it’s so fake.”

Cuomo freaked out earlier this month after a man called him “Fredo” in front of his family, a disparaging comparison to his older brother, Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
