Donald Trump has a chip on his shoulder — and on his mind.
The former president lashed out late Monday against Texas Rep. Chip Roy over his support of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and urged someone to step up and mount a primary challenge against the “RINO” lawmaker.
“Has any smart and energetic Republican in the Great State of Texas decided to run in the Primary against RINO Congressman Chip Roy,” Trump, 77, wrote on Truth Social, using the common acronym for for “Republican in name only.”
“For the right person, he is very beatable. If interested, let me know!!!”
There’s just one problem with Trump’s demand: The filing deadline was Dec. 11 and no serious contenders are running to unseat Roy.

Roy was the first member of Congress to endorse DeSantis for president back in March and was out in Iowa campaigning with him Monday.
DeSantis quickly came to Roy’s defense after Trump’s shot across the bow.
“While @chiproytx is fighting to do what Donald Trump promised to do — secure our southern border —the former president is on social media demanding a primary challenge to one of the most conservative members of Congress (even though the Texas primary filing deadline was over a week ago.),” the 45-year-old wrote on X Tuesday afternoon.
“I stand with Chip and am honored to have his support. The time for talking is over. We must stop the invasion, and I will get it done.”
“We ‘Rinos’ just doing our thing… #DeSantis2024 #DeSantisDelivers,” Roy posted on X Tuesday alongside an image of another study showing he scored a “perfect zero” in terms of support for President Biden’s agenda.
Roy is scheduled to attend other DeSantis events in the Hawkeye State later this week, and threw shade at Trump during a Fox News interview Monday night.

Trump is the clear frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, while Roy is vying for a fourth House term representing Texas’ 21st District, which covers the south-central part of the state, including some suburbs of Austin and San Antonio.
A Roy spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump and Roy have butted heads in the past as well.
Donald Trump is the undisputed 2024 GOP frontrunner. REUTERSRoy voted to certify Trump’s 2020 election loss to President Biden, breaking from the former president’s allies who fought to decertify the results.
He also panned Trump’s attempt to remain in office as “clearly impeachable conduct,” but later voted against doing so.
